Rho lets you send international and foreign-currency payments to 200+ countries and territories, at a 1% FX rate and no added fee on USD wires, through a partnership with Wise US Inc. You do it from the same account you already use for domestic banking, cards, and Bill Pay, so paying an overseas contractor or vendor never means opening a second platform.
Why businesses use Rho for international payments
No added Rho fee on USD wires, plus a 1% FX rate on conversions. Both are shown upfront before you send, not discovered afterward.
You decide who absorbs the delivery fees. A single toggle, “Cover all recipient delivery fees,” lets you pay the correspondent and SWIFT fees yourself for a flat $15, so your vendor receives the full amount. Leave it off and those fees come out of the transfer instead. No settlement codes to look up.
One account, not two. Domestic payments, USD international wires, and FX payments to other currencies all run from the same Banking tab.
Vendors stay set up once. Add a vendor's SWIFT/IBAN details a single time in their payment profile, and Rho reuses them on every future payment.
Real human support, 24/7. Reach a person by phone, in-app chat, or SMS, including help resolving a payment that's stuck in compliance review.
Here's how it actually works.
How sending one works
Set up the vendor first, with their international payment method on file (their SWIFT/IBAN or local bank details). From the Banking tab, select Move Funds then Pay, choose the vendor, and enter the amount in either the You Pay or Vendor Gets field. Rho converts the value and shows the full fee breakdown before you confirm, including the option to cover the recipient's delivery fees.
USD international wires can be sent and tracked directly in Bill Pay. Payments in another currency route through the Banking tab instead, covered in the limits section below.
Here's exactly what that costs.
What it costs
Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
International USD wire | $0 added by Rho |
Foreign currency conversion | 1% |
Cover all recipient delivery fees (optional) | $15 flat, covers correspondent and SWIFT charges so the recipient gets the full amount |
International wire recall (checking account) | $30, only if a sent wire needs to be canceled or reversed |
Domestic wire | $0 |
Fee totals shown before you send are estimates. Rho doesn't always have visibility into additional fees correspondent or intermediary banks apply while funds are in transit.
Here's how that stacks up against the alternatives.
How Rho compares
Provider | FX conversion fee | Wire fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Rho | 1% | $0 added on USD wires; $15 optional to cover recipient delivery fees; $30 to recall a sent wire | 200+ countries via Wise US Inc.; one account, no multi-currency holding |
Mercury | 1% on non-USD wires | $0 if sender covers all fees, $15 flat otherwise | USD international wires included on every tier, including free |
Wise Business | From 0.23%, no published ceiling | Varies by corridor | Holds balances in multiple currencies; built for multi-currency operations, not a feature bolted onto a banking account |
Airwallex | 0.5% above interbank for major currencies, 1% for others | $15 to $25 per SWIFT transfer | Holds multi-currency balances and local receiving accounts, a different product from a checking account that also sends wires |
Brex | Not disclosed as a standalone wire fee | $0 on domestic and international wires | Its disclosed FX markup, up to 3%, applies to card transactions specifically, not comparable to a wire fee schedule |
The honest split: Rho's 1% FX rate and $0 added wire fee are competitive against other banking platforms built primarily for domestic use. Wise and Airwallex undercut it on FX for heavy multi-currency volume, but they're a different kind of product, one built to hold and move money in multiple currencies, not a checking account that also sends wires. See the fuller breakdown if multi-currency is a bigger part of your decision.
But it's not all upside. Here's where Rho isn't the right fit.
Where Rho's international payments have real limits
Bill Pay handles USD, not foreign currency. Paying a bill in a non-USD currency means sending it from the Banking tab, then marking the bill Paid Externally in Bill Pay so your records stay clean. It's a two-step process, not a single click.
Bulk payments are domestic only. An international vendor can't be included in a bulk payment CSV; it has to be sent individually.
A few currencies lose tracking once sent. Indonesian rupiah, Philippine peso, and Malaysian ringgit (among others) route through local payment rails instead of SWIFT, so Rho has limited visibility once the funds leave.
No PO Box recipients. Both domestic and international wires require a physical beneficiary address, a U.S. banking regulation (BSA), not a Rho-specific restriction.
Some corridors are narrower than others. GBP isn't supported for SWIFT payments. Pakistani rupee, and a handful of other currencies, currently support payments to individuals but not businesses. Qatar accepts EUR or GBP but not USD. A short list of countries, including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, and Venezuela, is restricted entirely under U.S. sanctions law. The full list is public and worth checking before you commit to a vendor relationship.
It's not a multi-currency account. Rho doesn't hold balances in other currencies or offer local receiving accounts, the way Airwallex or Wise's own business account does.
One more thing worth knowing upfront.
A payment held for review is normal, not a red flag
Every international payment is screened against U.S. sanctions and anti-money-laundering rules before it's released, the same as it would be anywhere else. A first payment to a new country or beneficiary, an expired document on file, or a corridor with extra screening requirements can trigger a hold.
Most reviews clear within a few business days. The funds stay with the payment the whole time, they're released, returned, or in rare cases declined, and Rho's support team is reachable 24/7 to help move it along.
So who is this actually built for?
Who this is built for
Rho fits a company that banks primarily in USD and needs to pay someone abroad: a contractor invoice, an overseas vendor, rent on a foreign office. It's a real, no-added-fee way to send money internationally without leaving your primary banking platform.
If multi-currency holding, local receiving accounts, or high-volume FX is core to how your business operates, pair Rho with, or choose instead, a dedicated platform like Wise Business or Airwallex. That's a deliberate scope decision, not a gap Rho is trying to hide.

FAQs
Yes. Rho sends international and foreign-currency payments to 200+ countries and territories in 22 currencies, through a partnership with Wise US Inc. A few exceptions apply: GBP isn't supported for SWIFT transfers and PKR isn't supported for business payments, so confirm your specific currency before sending.
No. Rho converts and sends in the destination currency but doesn't hold balances in other currencies or offer local receiving accounts. Companies that need to hold money in GBP, EUR, or another currency should look at a dedicated multi-currency platform like Wise Business or Airwallex.
International wires typically route through one or more correspondent banks, and depending on how fees are split between sender and recipient, some of that cost can come out of the transfer amount itself. This is standard across international wires generally, not specific to Rho.
Non-SWIFT international payments typically settle in 1 to 3 business days. SWIFT payments take 4 to 5 business days, plus up to 2 additional days if currency conversion is involved. Actual timing depends on the destination country's banking infrastructure.
