Your payment is being screened, not lost. Every international payment passes through compliance checks that Rho and its payment partners are required by law to run — including sanctions and anti-money-laundering (AML) screening under U.S. regulations such as those administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Your funds remain with the payment until the review resolves: they are released, returned, or (in rare cases) the payment is declined. We know a paused payment is stressful, and this article explains exactly what happens next.
What is a payment review?
A review is a verification step, not an accusation. Before an international payment is released, it is screened against sanctions lists and AML rules. Screening happens per payment. A reviewer may need to confirm details about your business, your beneficiary, or the purpose of the transfer before the payment can move.
Why was this payment flagged?
Common triggers include:
A first payment to a new country, currency corridor, or beneficiary
Business-address verification — periodic re-confirmation of your operating address
An expired document on file, such as proof of address or ownership records
Corridor-specific checks — some countries and currencies carry extra screening requirements (see Restricted Countries and International Payment Types)
Because screening is per-payment, a transfer that has gone through many times before can still be selected for review. That is normal, even though it can feel arbitrary.
What will I be asked to provide?
Requests typically include:
Proof of your current operating address
An invoice, contract, or similar document supporting the payment's purpose
Confirmation of beneficiary details
Respond through the same channel that made the request, and send exactly what was asked for — complete, current, and legible. If a document you already provided is requested again, resend it; reviews sometimes require fresh copies, and resubmitting quickly is the fastest path to release.
How long will the review take?
Most reviews clear within a few business days, but some take longer — we can't promise a specific timeline, because release depends on the review being completed. The fastest thing you can do is respond to any document request promptly and completely.
What can Rho support do?
Rho support is a real human, 24/7, by phone, in-app chat, or SMS — call 1 (855) 7-GETRHO. We can check the status of your payment, follow up on the review, and escalate when it's urgent. What we can't do is skip or override a compliance requirement — those checks are mandatory for Rho and its payment partners.
What are my options while I wait?
Cancellation: if the payment hasn't been released yet, cancellation may be possible — see How to Cancel, Reverse or Dispute a Bank Transfer, or contact support.
A different corridor: if your vendor accepts USD, an international USD wire travels a different path than a foreign-currency transfer and may be an alternative for future payments.
How can I prevent reviews on future payments?
Keep your operating address and business documents current in Settings
Expect verification on your first payment to any new country or beneficiary, and have an invoice ready
Check Which Countries and Currencies Are Supported before paying a new corridor
