Free invoicing: a grid of eight numbered payment steps, from invoice to paid

Business bank accounts with free invoicing: 8 compared (2026)

Which business bank accounts include free invoicing? Compare Rho, Novo, Bluevine, Mercury, Found, Relay, Square and Chase on fees, payment methods and card costs.

Free invoicing is common. Free payment acceptance is not. Here's what each account charges when your clients actually pay.

Rho includes free invoicing with its business account; card payments cost 2.9% + $0.30 per card payment, absorbed by the business. It's best for US-incorporated businesses that want invoicing, domestic ACH and wire collection, and the business account in one platform.

Highlights

  • Rho Invoicing is free for Rho customers; when a client pays by card, it costs 2.9% + $0.30 per card payment, absorbed by the business and not passed to the client.

  • Free invoicing means you don't pay for the software. It does not mean getting paid is free.

  • Nearly every account above charges $0 a month on its base plan, so the monthly fee is close to a tie. The payment columns are where the money is.

Which business banking platforms include free invoicing?

Rho, Novo, Bluevine, Mercury, Found, Relay, Square and Chase all include invoicing with a business account, without a separate invoicing subscription on their base plan. Rho Invoicing is free for Rho customers; when a client pays by card, it costs 2.9% + $0.30 per card payment, absorbed by the business and not passed to the client.

Two names that come up in the same conversation work differently. Lili includes invoicing only on its paid Smart and Premium plans, and Wise lists invoicing at no extra cost but has closed card acceptance to new business customers. Both are covered below the ranked list.

We ranked platforms on four criteria: whether invoicing is included at no extra cost on the base business account, which payment methods clients can use, what it costs to receive card and bank payments, and how closely invoicing is tied to the account where the money lands.

Paid by an ACH transfer your client sends, it carries $0 Rho fees on domestic ACH payments received at Rho, and Novo, Bluevine, Mercury and Relay also list no fee to receive ACH. The cost appears when you pull the payment instead: a $10,000 ACH direct debit costs $100 at Bluevine (1%), $10 through Relay's pay-by-bank on Starter and $1 on Mercury Plus.

The real decision is how your clients prefer to pay and where that money lands.

The 8 business bank accounts with free invoicing, ranked

1. Rho: Best for US-incorporated businesses that want invoicing, domestic ACH and wire collection, and the business account in one platform

Rho is a business banking platform where invoicing sits inside the business account. You create an invoice, send it, and the payment lands in the same business account you run the business from, so your invoices and your balance live in one place.

Pay-by-card has been generally available since Aug 17, 2026, for eligible businesses, with a $10,000 per day default card limit that can be configured per business. The same platform also runs Bill Pay, free to Rho customers, so money in and money out sit in one business account.

Lili and Wise invoicing: what is included

Lili includes invoicing only on its paid Smart ($35 a month) and Premium ($55 a month) plans, and Wise lists invoicing at no extra cost but has closed card acceptance to new Wise Business customers. Neither fits the "free invoicing on the base business account" bar as cleanly as the eight above.

Lili offers a $0 Core plan without invoicing. On Smart and Premium, Lili lists unlimited invoices, status tracking and reminders. If invoicing is the reason you're switching, budget for the paid plan.

Wise Business charges a one-time $31 set-up fee and no monthly fee. Where card acceptance is active, Wise says card payouts can take up to 14 days, and it charges $6.11 per USD wire or Swift payment received.

What free invoicing does and does not cover

Free invoicing means you don't pay for the software. It does not mean getting paid is free.

The cost shows up in four places.

Card processing fees

Card payments carry processing fees on every platform here, usually through Stripe or the platform's own processor. As of Oct 18, 2026, published standard online card rates in this roundup run from 2.9% + $0.30 (Rho, Mercury, Relay, Square Plus and Premium) to 3.5% + $0.10 (Chase), and card-on-file rates can run higher.

Who pays matters as much as the rate. At Rho, the business absorbs the 2.9% + $0.30 per card payment and the client pays only the invoice amount. Relay offers surcharging on its paid plans, and Bluevine deducts processing fees from the payment before it reaches you.

ACH and wire fees

Bank payments are usually the cheap route, but "ACH" covers two different things. A client pushing an ACH transfer to you is often free to receive. There are $0 Rho fees on domestic ACH payments received at Rho, and Novo, Bluevine, Mercury and Relay list no fee on ACH received.

An ACH pull, where you debit the client's account, often costs money. Bluevine charges 1% for ACH direct debit, Square Free charges 1% ($1 minimum) unless deposited into Square Checking, and Mercury charges $1 per ACH debit on Plus. Incoming wires vary too: Relay charges $5 and Wise charges $6.11 per USD wire.

Payout timing

"Paid" doesn't always mean "in your account," and each platform publishes its own timeline. Relay lists two to three business days for card and ACH pull payments, Chase offers same-day funding on card invoice payments, and Wise says card payouts can take up to 14 days.

At Rho, a card-paid invoice is marked Paid when the payout is initiated, not when the funds land, and a new account's first card payout can take up to two weeks.

Plan gating

The free tier and the full feature set are often different things. Recurring invoices sit on Mercury's paid plans, Bluevine limits reminders on Standard, Relay puts recurring invoices on Grow, and Lili puts all invoicing behind Smart and Premium.

How to choose a business bank account with free invoicing

Start with how your clients actually pay you, then work backward to fees and features when picking the best business account for invoicing.

How clients pay: if most invoices are paid by bank transfer, look for $0 on ACH received. Rho, Novo, Bluevine, Mercury and Relay all fit. If clients expect to pay by card or wallet, compare the card rate and who absorbs it.

Invoice size: on large invoices, the percentage fee dominates. A $25,000 card payment costs $725.30 at 2.9% + $0.30 and $875.10 at 3.5% + $0.10, so steering big invoices to ACH or domestic wire saves real money.

Where the money lands: a business bank account with invoicing built in means one place to see what's been paid. Novo and Found ask you to connect a separate processor account before clients can pay by card, so check that setup step too.

What's on the free plan: if you need recurring invoices or multiple reminders, check whether they're on the plan you'll actually use before you count it as free.

A few situations change the answer:

  • You bill other businesses for large amounts: prioritize ACH and domestic wire collection with low or no receiving fees.

  • You sell in person and invoice occasionally: Square's single system may outweigh its higher free-tier card rate.

  • You want a branch: Chase is the only traditional bank in this roundup.

Best business account for invoicing, by business type

  • Rho: US-incorporated businesses that want invoicing, domestic ACH and wire collection, and the business account in one platform, since invoices, payments and Bill Pay share one business account.

  • Novo: small businesses already using Stripe, Square or PayPal, since cards run through the processor you already have.

  • Bluevine: businesses that want unlimited free invoices on a $0 checking plan, with no incoming ACH fees.

  • Mercury: businesses that want free invoicing now, with recurring invoices waiting on the paid plans.

  • Found: freelancers and very small businesses that quote first, since estimates convert into invoices.

  • Relay: businesses that chase late payments, since automated follow-ups come on the free plan.

  • Square: businesses already taking in-person payments, since invoices and POS settle in one system.

  • Chase: businesses that want a branch, since it's the only traditional bank of the eight.

If your business is US-incorporated and you want invoices paid into the same account you run the business from, Rho Invoicing is free for Rho customers, with card payments at 2.9% + $0.30 per card payment absorbed by your business, not your client. See how Rho Invoicing works.
